Telemundo 48 and NBC Bay Area Launch Backpack and School Supply Drive to Support Bay Area Students

There are many students who do not have the school supplies (pens, paper, notebooks, and more) they need to be successful in school. With inflation rising, we anticipate the 2023-2024 school year will continue to be challenging for families already living paycheck to paycheck, with little money left to purchase items like essential school supplies. Telemundo 48 and NBC Bay Area are helping communities move forward and supporting our schools with a backpack and school supply drive to benefit K-12 students in the Bay Area.

Supporting Our Schools is a national school supply campaign spearheaded by NBCUniversal stations. Telemundo 48 and NBC Bay Area are working with Family Giving Tree y Comcast to help collect supplies and funds that will help students and teachers in need. This year, our goal is to ensure that 28,000 Bay Area students have what they need to start the school year.

Whether education takes place at home or in the classroom, one thing is certain: if students don’t have the supplies to get the job done, they won’t be able to learn.

For thousands of children from marginalized families, school supplies are in short supply. You can make a difference for so many in need. donate today to provide backpacks and school supplies that will impact the education of Bay Area children.

This year, approximately 200 qualifying schools in the Bay Area will receive backpacks through the program. For many of your students, these fully stocked backpacks will be the only resource available to begin a new school year, possibly still learning remotely at home, with the tools and confidence they need to succeed.

In 2022, Telemundo 48, Nbc Bay Area and Family Giving Tree collected more than 28,000 backpacks that were distributed to Bay Area schools for students eligible for the free school meals program.

We’ll be sharing stories this July from the Bay Area and beyond to raise awareness of ways to help students and teachers advance and thrive in the classroom.

Backpack donations will be distributed to students eligible for the free lunch program in Bay Area schools.
