Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko suggested that peace negotiations for Ukraine could begin in the fall, TASS reported.
“The most important thing is that this conflict ends… And that in September they (negotiations) can take place is also unlikely. However, many things show that in the autumn the situation should change and we will start talking on the negotiating table. It is possible that this will not happen in September, but later, but again in the fall,” Lukashenko said during a meeting with foreign and Belarusian journalists.
Belarus is counting on Russia to win the conflict with Ukraine, Lukashenko said in response to a journalist’s question.
However, the Belarusian president noted that those who do not want a victory for Moscow should sit down at the negotiating table with Russia.
Lukashenko indicated that he does not maintain contacts with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky.
“As for communication channels, my youngest son has Zelensky’s phone, we don’t have any other communication channels (with Kyiv). We don’t maintain relations with them, and you know that I am not the reason for this,” said the Belarusian president.
“Russia is the future of the planet. All the resources are there, in Russia they know how to create leading technologies: space, nuclear technologies, weapons and others,” Lukashenko said.
The Belarusian president expressed the opinion that Russia should “be more active”, for example, Moscow should be a consolidating force of the post-Soviet space.
Lukashenko said that a possible explosion at the Zaporizhia NPP would not end the conflict in Ukraine, but would cause enormous damage to all countries in Europe.
“Even if the plant is blown up, the war will not end there. However, this will cause enormous damage to all of Europe, and not only Europe, but the entire Eurasian continent. The consequences will also reach America. However, the war will not end there.” , said the Belarusian president.
He also stated that he did not discuss the situation with the Zaporizhia NPP with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“With President Putin, we have not discussed the situation with the Zaporizhzhya NPP. The situation is simple: if you Americans and Ukraine do not want what you are talking about to happen there, it will not happen. Russia should not blow up the Zaporizhzhya NPP. It is in Russian hands. Why are they blowing it up?” Lukashenko added.
Earlier, Zelensky accused Russia of preparing a terrorist act at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, and Ukraine conducted exercises to respond to a nuclear accident in the areas near the plant, TASS reports. (Alexei Margoevski, BTA)
