In American football, the term “blind side” describes the vulnerable side of a quarterback because, facing the direction of the throw, he can be attacked from the other side. At the same time, the film has a meta level, as it reports on blind spots in society. It’s about prejudice, discrimination and exclusion.
Blindside and LGBTQI+
And that brings us to LGBTQI+, this great, colorful and large community, which unfortunately is often not seen as part of the rest of the community. This usually happens intentionally, but much more often due to a “blind side”. And so it is our job to change that. In addition to the corporate goals, we have to use the wide reach to break down prejudices, prevent discrimination and transform exclusion into inclusion.
As an agency, we take our team and, above all, the companies we support as advertisers, into account. It still exists far too often, this “blind side”. It doesn’t matter whether a brand is of the opinion that the ethnicity, skin color, sexual orientation, gender identity or nose shape of the proposed actors do not correspond to the image of the consumers or whether people close to us disqualify themselves with a thoughtless statement or posting : We oppose it.
These values and the FCKAFD logo on our website are part of our DNA. But let’s try not just to push our opinions through bluntly. We intervene, discuss and argue. Sometimes it takes dialogue and the power of persuasion, enlightenment and examples, a change of perspective and empathy.
Guhl campaign
An example where we were able to set a positive accent is our current campaign for Guhl. Together with the client, we chose a cast that was as diverse as possible and one of the protagonists of the campaign is a trans woman. Because everyone can, may and should wash their hair with Guhl. However, it was important to everyone involved that it was not glorified as an end in itself, but treated with the appropriate degree of implicitness. This is how inclusion works for us. And if we have the feeling that we can’t get any further with an opponent? Then we show our composure. We stand by our values, pull the rip cord and recommend a change of agency and employer.
How “The Blind Side” ends? Empathetic, approachable, successful. More will not be revealed, because it is worth taking a look.
