The tourist was tracked down by the Italian police after five days, and writes in the letter that he only now realizes how serious the deed was.

Italian Il Messaggero published the letter first.
– Should be taken into account more
– Very serious
The Italian Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano was early on and mentioned the matter.
– I consider it very serious, undignified and a sign of rudeness that a tourist vandalizes one of the most famous places in the world to scratch the name of his fiancee, he wrote on Twitter.
Ivan can potentially expect a summons and prison sentence. according to Sky News he risks a fine of up to around NOK 175,000.
– I commend those who guard the priceless historical and artistic value of the Colosseum with dedication and care. (…) It is with deep embarrassment that I did not understand the history of the monument until after what happened, writes Ivan in the letter of apology.
Berlusconi is dead: These are the scandals
– Typical foreigner
Now the case is being investigated, and Ivan is suspected of having damaged a cultural monument. His girlfriend is not a suspect in the case.
The 27-year-old’s defender, Alexandro Maria Tirelli, points to the man’s ignorance as the cause of the incident:
– He is a typical foreigner who believes that everything is allowed in Italy, even actions that would be severely punished in their own homeland, he says to Il Messaggero.
The Colosseum is an amphitheater in Rome. It is the world’s largest and accommodates approximately 50,000 spectators, according to the report Great Norwegian Lexicon (SNL). It was begun by Emperor Vespasian after AD 70 and completed under his sons Titus and Domitian.
A formal dedication took place under Titus in AD 80, but the upper floor was completed under Domitian. It has always been considered one of the world’s most impressive architectural structures and is a masterpiece of Roman construction art, writes SNL.
