TRIBUNKALTIM.CO, BONTANG – Millions of Wolbacia mosquito eggs will be distributed to all areas in Bontang, in August.
The Wolbacia mosquito is predicted to be able to reduce the spread of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases in Bontang.
Millions of Wolbacia mosquito eggs obtained from the Ministry of Health will be bred in Bontang.
Mosquito eggs will also be distributed from the center in stages for 12 shipments.
Once delivered, Bontang will receive 2.5 million eggs to be distributed to 15 urban villages.

Young Epidemiologist at the Bontang Health Service (Dinkes) Adi Permana said the DHF management scheme with this new method was called the Wolbacia Project.
Taman City was appointed by the central government to be a pilot project for testing this new method.
In simple terms, the Wolbachia variant mosquitoes that are spread to all areas will interbreed with Aedes mosquitoes to paralyze DHF.
“The hatching of the eggs was carried out after the first shipment, then once every two weeks they will be distributed again,” said Adi, Thursday (6/7/2023).
It is planned that Bontang will receive 30 million Wolbachia variant mosquito eggs from the central government. It’s just that in 2023, it is likely that there will only be 6 shipments with a total of 15 million eggs.
“Excess shipments in the following year,” said Adi.
The program budget has also been allocated IDR 600 million to finance technical staff in the village during the process of hatching mosquito eggs.
Hatching mosquito eggs will use a bucket container before being released.
Adi also appealed to residents not to worry about the large number of Wolbachia mosquitoes in the settlements.

This is because the mosquito has been injected with harmless Wolbachia bacteria.
“So don’t worry. Mosquitoes are to ward off dengue,” he said.
