Corinthians Defender Gil Explains Miners’ Goal and Expresses Confidence in Reversing Result at Home

On Wednesday night, Corinthians was defeated by 1-0 against América-MG, in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil. After the game, defender Gil explained the miners’ goal.

According to the player, the move happened due to a lack of communication between the Corinthians group and said he believed that Timão could reverse the result at home. The move in question took place in the 31st minute of the first stage. Midfielder Juninho, in a quick play, left the Corinthians defender behind and managed to open the scoring for the miners.

“It’s even hard to say because I think we were well placed on defense. We were chatting later and it was a miscommunication from everyone, so I think that for the game we played we deserved better luck and now we have peace of mind to continue our work. Have a good head, everyone works well. Let’s keep working”, began Gil in the mixed zone after the game.

Following the mixed zone, Gil said that they predicted that the game would be quite difficult against América-MG. The defender, however, stressed that the team did their best on the field and was unlucky, but that he will be able to revert the result at home with ease.

“Yes, I think so. We know the game here would be difficult and we did our best. Now it’s peace of mind, continue working, as I said. For the game that we present here today, of course we could have had better luck, but it didn’t happen”, completed the player.

Corinthians will face América-MG again only on July 15th, at Neo Química Arena, for the second leg of the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil. Before that, Timão faces Atlético-MG and Universitário de Desportes, for the Brasileirão and Sul-Americana, respectively.
