After the release of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”, it is likely that many people have wondered: what is the best film in the Harrison Ford saga? So Mag set out to rank the 5 tapes of the intrepid fictional archaeologist from worst to best. Enjoy the ranking in the following lines!
It is worth noting that the creation of this famous franchise dates back to 1973, when George Lucas wrote the draft of a project entitled “The Adventures of Indiana Smith.” Later, in 1975, he met with his friend Philip Kaufman and they completed the first script. However, the production was put on hold due to the professional commitments of both.
It wasn’t until May 1977 that the “Star Wars” creator spoke to Steven Spielberg about the story. Four years later, the filmmaker launched the first adventure of “Indy”, with a cast that included: Ford, Karen Allen, Ronald Lacey, John Rhys-Davies and Alfred Molina.

THE RANKING OF “INDIANA JONES” FILMS
5. “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” (2008)
“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” was the first attempt to resume the saga, back in 2008. It did very well at the box office, accumulating more than 790 million dollars. Nonetheless, it received mixed reviews from experts.
While some felt that it was a proper continuation of the story, others felt that it did not match the charm of the earlier works. In this sense, it was nominated for a Razzie Award in the category Worst Prequel, Remake, Copy or Sequel.
In addition, in 2012, it led the list of the 50 most disappointing films of all time, made by Total Film Magazine.

4. “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” (2023)
James Mangold replaces Spielberg in the direction of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate” (also known as “Indiana Jones and the Call of Fate” or simply “Indiana Jones 5”). This film plays with nostalgia, bringing back beloved figures from the saga and key winks in history.
It’s entertaining and brings a fresh take on the franchise, with stars like Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen and Antonio Banderas in the cast. However, it doesn’t rank as well when compared to the original trilogy. Even if your good intentions are apparent, carrying the weight of a legacy is difficult.
What is it about? To recover a legendary dial that can change the course of history, Indiana Jones will have to embark on another adventure against time. Jones and his goddaughter confront Jürgen Voller, a former Nazi working for NASA.
3. “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” (1984)
“Indiana Jones and the Temple of Perdition” (also known as “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom”) is the second film in the saga and has a much darker tone than its predecessor, which is why it perhaps impacted more than one viewer.
It stands out for its impressive opening scene and the presence of a little Ke Huy Quan (Tapón), who years later would become an Academy Award winner thanks to “Everything Everywhere All at Once”.
It should be noted that this feature film also triumphed at that ceremony, taking the award for Best Visual Effects.

2. “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” (1989)
“Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” is the third installment in the saga and one of the most beloved by fans. Who does not remember the great Sean Connery as the father of our protagonist? Well, both stars delighted us with their performances in this story about a worn-out filial bond, giving the franchise great sentimental value.
This Steven Spielberg film closes the initial trilogy and won the Oscar for Best Sound Effects.

What is it about? Year 1938. Indiana’s father, also an archaeologist, Henry Jones, is kidnapped when he was looking for the Holy Grail. Indiana will have to go to rescue him and, incidentally, try to keep the precious relic, which the Nazis also covet.

1. “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981)
“Raiders of the Lost Ark” (also known as “Raiders of the Lost Ark”) is the film with which the saga begins, so it was the great presentation of “Indy” on the big screen. The master Steven Spielberg gave us an epic adventure story, with a hero you could empathize with, good supporting characters, and a soundtrack by composer John Williams.
This is a film acclaimed by the public and critics that won 5 Oscars in technical categories. There would be no successful saga without this feature film!

What is it about? The year is 1936. After returning from an unsuccessful mission in South America, the US government entrusts the adventurer Indiana Jones with a new task: to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis do.
