Luciano Spalletti Denies Taking a Sabbatical and Prepares for New Job

Jakarta

Ex-Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti denied that he was said to be on a long leave. He is currently not bound by any club, but that doesn’t mean he just stays quiet and doesn’t prepare himself for a new job.

“You (the media) mentioned that and kept writing about it. I just said I needed to take a breath and sort things out,” Spalletti said, denying he was on leave, as quoted by Football Italia.

“I need a little time, I will see what happens and evaluate what I need. I need to take time and learn from other coaches. I don’t like the idea of taking a sabbatical, because I’m not sure I’ll be back coaching next year.”

“I need a change, maybe I’m interested in different things,” explained Spalletti.

Spalletti resigned from his post after guiding Napoli to win the Italian League last season. He wanted to take a break, even though there were rumors that there was friction between him and President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The Athletic reports that Spalletti will not coach for the next season, because he is under contract with Napoli until 2024. As long as he is still being paid by the Partenopei, he is prohibited from coaching other teams. Napoli have appointed Rudi Garcia as a replacement.

“For sure, I will not coach until the new year. Then I will see how I feel. If you love something the way I love Napoli, then it will be difficult to follow,” said Spalletti.
