Violent Morning in New York City: Shootings and Stabbings Leave Two Dead

New York City had a violent morning after a series of shootings that left at least two dead, police said. The violent night wasn’t just limited to shootings. A stabbing also occurred after a large fight broke out. The series of violent incidents, most notably shootings, comes on the heels of President Joe Biden on Tuesday calling for stricter gun control following several “tragic shootings and senseless” deaths that killed at least a dozen and injured dozens before the July 4 holiday.

According to the New York Police Department, one of the first violent incidents to occur early Wednesday morning involved a woman, whose age was not disclosed, who was shot in the leg around 1:30 a.m. near the Bristol Street y Livonia Avenue in Brooklyn. The shooting victim was taken to Brookdale University Hospital in stable condition.

In this case there are still no arrests.

Minutes later, around 1:45 a.m., police responded to another shooting in which a 30-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the face in Vermilyea Avenue in the Inwood section of Manhattan. According to the uniformed, the man was taken to NYC Health and Hospitals in Harlem, where he was pronounced dead.

His identity is pending notification to the family. There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

Later, around 2:20 a.m. in Brooklyn, another person, a 20-year-old man, was shot in the leg, police said. The event occurred in Chester Avenue and the victim was taken to Brookdale University Hospital in stable condition.

It is unknown if there have been any arrests in connection with this shooting.

Around the same time in The Bronx, there was a deadly shooting. According to police, around 2:21 a.m. two people were shot in Morris Avenue. An 18-year-old who was shot in the left leg was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The other shooting victim was shot in the left hip and was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition. Her age is unknown.

In regards to this double shooting, police said two persons of interest are in custody and a firearm was recovered. Police also said they found 12 bullet casings of unknown caliber in East 182 Street y Walton Avenue. It is unclear if police believe the casings are related to this deadly shooting or another incident.

In addition, two separate shootings took place in Throggs Neck Houses in the Bronx within minutes of each other earlier in the evening, according to the New York Police.

Authorities said that around 12:30 a.m., a 34-year-old man who was shot in the right leg in Schley Ave entered Westchester Square Hospital. She is expected to survive, according to police.

Not even half an hour later, a 36-year-old man was shot in the buttocks at around 12:57 a.m. in Dewey Avenue. In this case, he too entered a hospital, the Jacobi Medical Center, and is also expected to survive, according to police.

No arrests have been made in any of the shootings in Throggs Neck Houses.

The violent morning was not limited only to shootings. A stabbing was also reported in Harlem after a large group fight broke out, police said. According to authorities, police responded to a call around 12:15 a.m. from a 31-year-old man who was stabbed multiple times in the torso in Riverside Drive. He was taken to Harlem Hospital in critical condition.

No arrests have been made in connection with this incident either.

The series of violent incidents, particularly shootings, comes on the heels of President Joe Biden calling for stricter gun control Tuesday following several “senseless and tragic shootings” that killed at least a dozen and left dozens injured before the July 4 holiday.

“It is within our power to once again ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, require safe gun storage, end gun manufacturers’ immunity from liability, and enact universal background checks,” Biden said. in his statement on Tuesday.
