The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) thwarted a terrorist act at an energy facility on Sakhalin Island, according to the agency’s press center, which reported that a supporter of Ukrainian nationalists had been detained.
And the agency stated in a statement, “The FSB in the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk thwarted the preparation of terrorist acts at the island’s energy system facility and a local recruitment department. A Russian citizen, born in 1980, involved in illegal activities, was detained, and he is a supporter of Ukrainian neo-Nazism.”
He added, “At his place of residence, necessary elements for the production of an improvised explosive device, means of communication containing instructions for making explosive devices and incendiary devices, a large amount of terrorist and extremist books, and correspondence with the coordinator of a Ukrainian terrorist organization were confiscated.”
Moreover, the Russian Federal Security Service opened criminal cases against the detainee according to Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code “preparation for a terrorist act” and Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code “treason”. The detainee faces up to life in prison.
It is noteworthy that the Russian Federal Security Service thwarted two days ago, on July 3, an assassination attempt on the President of the Russian Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov.
According to a statement issued by the Federal Security Service, a Russian citizen was arrested, recruited by the Ukrainian intelligence services, and trained in Ukraine on explosives and mines.
The man planned to blow up Aksionov’s car, but he was arrested in possession of the explosive device before he carried out the plan, and a case was opened against him on charges of attempting to commit a terrorist act and illegal possession of explosives.
