Tour de France Stage 5: Pau to Laruns – Mountain Duel between Pogačar and Vingegaard

Fifth stage. Pau to Laruns. 162.7 kilometers.

That is what awaits the riders in the Tour de France in today’s mountain stage.

The mountains Col de Soudet and Col de Marie-Blanque will potentially give us some answers about the form of the riders chasing the yellow leader’s jersey.

According to Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme, the mountains that rise 1,540 and 1,035 meters above sea level are not very ideal for the big attacks, but emphasizes that anything can happen.

LAST: Mattias Skjelmose, who was considered by Thor Hushovd as one of the favorites before today’s stage, was involved in a rollover, but just passed his team with a thumbs up. So it seems to be going well with the Dane.

There is a bit of a feeling of atmosphere in the field, so no riders have really gone for a break, but a group of 36 riders is leading the way.

Another thing worth mentioning is that Fabio Jakobsen seems to be struggling a bit already 20 kilometers into the stage. The Dutchman has lost contact with the main field and the question is whether the sprinter will be able to complete today’s stage.

Kristoff with the opportunity of the ages after a dramatic end

This will be the tour’s first climbing duel between superstars Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard. Jumbo-Visma’s sports director Merjin Zeeman is prepared for everything.

– He (Pogačar) can try to attack everywhere. We must always be ready, because he is a wild rider. He goes for it and that means we always have to be ready, he says in an interview with Cyclingnews before today’s stage.

The finish for the stage is expected to be around 17:20.
