Lunit, a medical artificial intelligence (AI) company, announced on the 5th that it will participate in the ‘SEHA Virtual Hospital’ project, a key task of Saudi Arabia’s national strategic project ‘Vision 2030’.
The Vision 2030 project is a national strategic task that Crown Prince bin Salman of Saudi Arabia is actively promoting to diversify the existing oil-centered industrial structure.
Among them, the SEHA virtual hospital project is one of the top priorities in the healthcare sector, and aims to introduce virtual hospitals that utilize digital technologies such as medical AI to medical institutions across Saudi Arabia and provide quality medical services.
The Saudi government plans to invest a total of $66 billion (approximately 86 trillion won) in establishing medical infrastructure such as virtual hospitals and increase participation from the private sector from 40% to 65%.
In order to participate in the ‘Vision 2030 SEHA Virtual Hospital’ project, Lunit has provided ‘Lunit Insight CXR’, an AI image analysis solution for chest X-rays, and ‘Lunit Insight MMG’, an AI image analysis solution for mammography, to the world’s largest public medical virtual hospital under the Ministry of Health (MoH) of Saudi Arabia. Installation is complete.
Accordingly, Lunit plans to conduct clinical safety and validation of the Lunit AI solution and product performance evaluation by November of this year.
Afterwards, if the performance evaluation is successfully completed, Lunit products will be used in earnest in Saudi Arabia’s ‘National Cancer Screening and Tuberculosis Testing’ program in 170 national and public virtual hospitals across Saudi Arabia.
Seo Beom-seok, CEO of Lunit, said, “With the ‘new Middle East boom’ that has accelerated since Saudi Crown Prince bin Salman’s visit to Korea at the end of last year, export expectations of domestic companies for the Saudi government’s Vision 2030 project are growing.” As Lunit is participating in the SEHA virtual hospital project in earnest while the amount is expected to be enormous, we will continue to actively target the highly profitable Middle East medical market.”
Meanwhile, from the 26th of last month to the 1st of this month, Lunit was at the SEHA national and public virtual hospital medical site in Mecca and Medina, Saudi Arabia, during the Hajj, the largest religious event in Islam involving 2 million people from 160 countries. During the event, the Insight CXR was used to ensure emergency and urgent patient treatment.
