Unfortunately, some donors believe that the Russian threat is no longer as significant, according to statements made by Jakub Janda, the director of the think tank, to iDNES.cz. Janda added that the personnel changes and strategic focus were primarily driven by the think tank’s desire to remain sustainable and continue to have a political impact.
The European Values Think Tank has encountered financial limitations, leading to the discontinuation of various projects. Apart from the topic of disinformation and Russian influence, the think tank recently dissolved teams dedicated to monitoring the situation in Hungary and Slovakia.
In the past year, the think tank established an extensive program to support Ukrainian analysts, with the majority of financial support now being redirected to Ukraine. Janda informed that the team of nine Ukrainian analysts who worked for them has gradually transitioned back to Ukraine. He stated that their temporary mission had been fulfilled. The Kremlin Watch program, which monitors Russian disinformation, has separated from European Values and will continue as an independent entity called the Center for Informed Society.
Veronika Vachova, who led the program at European Values, stated that the Center is being established to continue addressing topics that they understand and consider important, such as Russian influence and disinformation, security policy education, and support for women in security and other sectors.
