Ukraine’s NATO Summit: Dreaming of Membership with Exceptions – Expert Analysis

The maximum that Ukraine can count on from the NATO summit is to provide it with all the advantages of an Alliance member state, with the exception of the fifth article, Igor Yakovenko believes.

Russian opposition journalist, ex-deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Igor Yakovenko said that the admission of Ukraine to NATO at the summit in Vilnius on July 11-12 is from the realm of dreams and, of course, this will not happen.

“The maximum that can be expected is if Ukraine is given a status that allows it to actually have all the advantages that NATO gives, with the exception of the fifth article. In addition, it is very important if specific conditions for admission to NATO are clearly announced, because today the moment everything is quite vague, said an expert in an interview with Yuri Bibik for the Novin Factory YouTube channel.

According to Yakovenko, it is clear that there are several conditions for Ukraine’s admission to NATO. The first is the liberation of all territories occupied by Russia. The second is the cessation of hostilities.

“Agree, these are different things. If we are talking about the fact that Ukraine will be admitted to NATO after Russia stops hostilities against Ukraine, then this means only one thing: Russia can forever block Ukraine’s path to NATO. It is enough for her start shooting, and please, Ukraine will not be accepted into NATO, that is, these are actually different conditions, and I would like this to be the first”, the analyst explained.

In addition, Yakovenko noted that the summit will most likely be devoted not only to the issues of Ukraine’s admission to NATO, but more priority issues should be raised at it, namely, the transfer of aviation to Ukraine.

“This question was raised both in Zaluzhny’s latest interviews and in Zelensky’s speeches. You can say as much as you like that Ukraine is advancing slowly, but under such conditions, the fact that it is advancing at all is a miracle. Not a single military doctrine is capable of an offensive without a serious air cover, – explained the expert.

After that, Yakovenko asked a rhetorical question that worries a lot of people today: “Western partners who are going to delay providing aviation to Ukraine and are counting on some kind of offensive, and the F-16 aircraft are supposed to be delivered just at the time when the rains and autumn thaws begin, do they really not understand what they are doing? Or are they doing it on purpose? After all, when there is aviation, tanks will no longer be able to attack. ”

Recall that Igor Yakovenko reacted to mass protests in France: “There is a problem.”

Also Igor Yakovenko explainedwhy Putin did not start repressions immediately after “Prigozhin’s rebellion”.

Earlier, Igor Yakovenko suggested what Putin might do to cancel the warrant for his arrest: “This is the stamp of an outcast.”
