“A fasting hyena”: The Bobolais public discovering the play

The play “A fasting hyena” was presented to the public for the first time on Friday June 30, 2023. It was at the Djeliya center, located in the Diarradougou district of Bobo-Dioulasso.

Inspired by the film KOTEBA to discover the historical character of Samory Touré with a contemporary perspective, the director of the play “A hyena on an empty stomach”, Noël Minougou and his actors delivered a show of hour to the public who came in large numbers for the occasion. The play carried by Mahamadou Papa Kouyaté, makes us relive the story of Samory Touré who would have faced the French colonial penetration. Clearly, in the play, having signed a protectorate treaty with the French, Samory Touré sent his heir son to meet the French who decided to take him to France. During his stay in France, the latter having seen during a parade the armament of French soldiers, was amazed. Once back, the son of Samory Touré made a speech in front of his fighters, saying openly that they could not win this war against France. Samory Touré had him imprisoned and decided to go to war against the French. On the starting point, he says, “Consider me ‘a fasting hyena'”. According to Mahamadou Papa Kouyaté, this creation deals with current issues, namely governance and the presence of foreign forces in West Africa, in particular military and political cooperation which is decried in most countries plagued by terrorism. . After the Bobo-Dioulasso stage, the play “A fasting hyena” will be broadcast in Bama, Orodara, Houndé and Banfora. It should be noted that this play is co-financed by the Djeliya Center and the Cultural and Tourism Development Fund (FDCT) as part of the support project for creative industries and cultural governance (PAIC-GC) with the European Union (EU) support
