On April 26, NASA lost contact with its Ingenuity Mars lander, leaving it unclear whether the vehicle had successfully completed its 52nd flight.
However, now the news has appeared in the media that communication has been restored after 63 long days of waiting.
Problem according to available information consisted of Ingenuity landing at a point where it was separated from the Perseverance rover by a hill. And if Perseverance can’t “see” the helicopter, it can’t even communicate with it.
On Wednesday, June 28, however, Perseverance finally cleared this obstacle and subsequently sent Ingenuity the signal the Jet Propulsion Laboratory experts needed.
Recall that something similar happened in April, when contact with Ingenuity was unexpectedly cut for six days and the mission team was already fearing the worst. Fortunately, everything turned out well.
Currently, the helicopter is undergoing inspection and preparing for its 53rd consecutive year above the surface of the red planet. Learn more in the video above.
