The Possibility of a Long-term Coalition Between GERB-SDS and PP-DB: Insights from Experts

The GERB-SDS and PP-DB coalition may last until the local elections, but also after that, even if they reach a 4-year mandate.

Around this opinion they united in the studio of Bulgaria ON AIR journalist Valeria Veleva and PR expert Nidal Alghafari.

“At least until the local elections, the assembly will not break, and it may continue after them. We are currently observing a theater and the fact that personal interests are greater than the national ones,” commented Veleva.

According to her, the coalition is supported by institutional mechanisms that are very important for the development of the country. “These are the finances that should come under the Recovery and Resilience Plan. It is the mission of this government to pass these laws, which are not few.

But the point is that nobody is writing these laws right now. The deputies have not yet sat down at the table to adopt these laws,” she said.

The journalist is of the opinion that when all the projects for constitutional changes are gathered, a debate will begin, for which there is no agreement in society – whether there should be such changes at all.

According to Veleva, GERB delayed the announcement of its candidate for mayor of Sofia. However, she sees a problem with the PP-DB candidate Vasil Terziev.

“You have to explain to this society why you are removing this person. Because he lived with the building of a democratic Bulgaria? Can you tell me something about whether he has spoken outside his company?” Veleva said.

“If they continue in this spirit, they will complete the entire mandate,” PR expert Nidal Alghafari told Bulgaria ON AIR in a comment on the life of the government. According to him, the reason for this is that the parties will try to realize the promises they made to their voters.

According to him, however, there will be no constitutional reform. “Everyone has focused on the prosecutor’s office. When you look at the prosecutor’s office, you see that there is a problem in the court, there is a problem in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, there is a problem in the Investigation. You cannot start from the middle, you have to continue to the end. If they go to vote on it , they can mess up the Constitution in such a way that later we will wonder how to fix it,” he added.
