The Center SportAdo of the CHUV has decided to think outside the box and get in touch with young people. From July 1 to August 19, his 1020-SPARK project takes up residence in Renens in the Censuy car park.
Throughout the summer, a mobile and modular structure, made up of containers, sports equipment and street furniture, will offer more than 60 free activities. On the program in particular: climbing wall, basketball, skate ramp, workshops, concerts, urban dances and improv classes, lists the CHUV in a press release on Monday.
Preventive action
The objective is to act in the face of a sedentary lifestyle, isolation and physical, psychological and social disorders which are constantly increasing among young people. Between 2017 and 2021, the proportion of young people reporting mental disorders more than doubled. And almost one in six pupils is overweight or obese in Switzerland.
“We must take action without waiting for a young person to go wrong and present himself for consultation”, notes in the press release Dr. Stéphane Tercier, head of the SportAdo Center. Beyond physical activity, the program aims to reconnect young people with each other and foster self-confidence, far from any competition.
This innovative project, co-organized with the city of Renens, was imagined as an urban laboratory. The activities are intended primarily for young people aged 12 to 20, the core target of the project. But there will also be activities for adults such as soft gym or stroller gym to promote intergenerational bonding.
The project will criss-cross the canton during the two pilot years 2023 and 2024. It will stop in various towns in Vaud. Next destination: 1400-SPARK in Yverdon-les-Bains during the months of September and October.
