The Thursday Terraces, let’s go! Free concerts on the terraces of bars and cafes in Rouen, a DJ set and a Radio Nova stage are on the program for this Thursday, July 6, 2023.
This edition of the TDJ starts off with a bang with “Kong”, the California rock. The meeting is fixed at Gaillard-Loiselet square, a stone’s throw from the MJC Left Bank, at 6 p.m. A festive and overheated performance that highlights the percussion.
The Great Summer Tour Radio Nova stops in Rouen with a set set up on Place du 19-Avril 1944. Between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., a DJ set by Violet Indigo and the “Grand blind test of Radio Nova”. From 9 p.m. to midnight, change of scenery and head to the Marcel-Duchamp esplanade for the Pixvae concert (see below) and Radio Nova Soundsystem.
On the Place du Vieux-Marché, from 7 p.m., Don Rimini animates the Block Party of this first Thursday in music. The tenor of “French touch” and house since the 2000s plays the “diggers” of prestige with his selection of electro nuggets.
Concerts
cachasax
Place des Carmes – 6:45 p.m. and 8:45 p.m.
“Caixa: the snare drum in Portuguese from Brazil attached to the “sax” of the quintet’s favorite instrument (4 saxophones and a drum kit), here is the essence of the Latin jazz formation which has its eyes firmly set on the land of palm trees and dream beaches. No wonder if you find a few tasty slices of Stan Getz and Walter Rosa in your glass of cachaça while swaying.”
Miraculous Mule
Place de la Calende – 7:15 p.m.
“More than a decade of activity on the clock for these four Londoners passionate about the roots of rock: the meeting of Spirituals and Hillbilly, the songs that punctuate the pains common to penitentiaries and cotton fields. A very current rise towards the folk and the blues of the origins on a flayed garage-rock’n roll carpet, faithful to the story but always adventurous and poetically fierce.”
And Senior
Square Gaillard-Loiselet – 19h30
“Yes sir, we say to the possibility offered by the group: to combine the energy of rock and classical and Spanish harmonies on two acoustic guitars. Two complementary approaches to the instrument that make the Rouen duo a surprise to discover without moderation: one rhythmic and percussive, the other virtuoso and applied. A bit like the dexterity of Paco de Lucia in Muse’s perfecto.”
Zar Electric (pictured above)
Square Gaillard-Loiselet – 21h
“A trio that is not from Marseilles by chance: two multi-instrumentalist singers (oud, kora, gumbri) and a machine attendant superimpose electronic trance on those of the Maghreb and the Orient. Hypnotic, bewitching, this stateless formula and multicultural is found on a first ep “Hawa”, a reflection of the bubbling intensity that the group deploys live until trance.”
Pixvae
Museum of Fine Arts – 9 p.m.
“From the Lyon stable Compagnie 4000, the Franco-Colombian group came back strong this year with an “Oi Vé” which draws its inspiration from the Currulao, a culture which includes both music and dance, and whose marimba by Chonta is the central instrument, it is like the piano of the forest of the Pacific coast. With jazz-rock scents to spice up the sauce, the recipe is guaranteed to be addictive and spicy.”
The Teacher Teacher
Place de la Calende – 9:15 p.m.
“The Flat Country continues to send indie-rock missiles impossible to calibrate since the golden age of dEUS, and it’s no coincidence. On the program here, rereading not really in the rules of the unmanageable tenors of the noisy trend, from Sonic Youth to Jesus Lizard. Complex, catchy, catchy: The Guru Guru shakes the plum tree of the 90s to pick up the ripest fruits.”
