Successful Nationwide Vaccination Campaign in Zone 7: Over 239,000 Children Vaccinated Against Measles, Rubella, and Polio

VACCINATION. The vaccination campaign runs until this week nationwide.

In Zone 7, which includes the provinces of Lhey, Zamora Chinchipe and El Oro, has exceeded the number of 239.000 boys and girls vaccinated against measles, rubella and polio. In Loja, specifically, account for more than 82,104 minors who have received the vaccination until the end of last month.

Campaign

The nationwide vaccination campaign began on May 2 and will run until July 9, 2023. During this period, the health centers closest to the children’s homes They are providing the vaccines for free. The main objective of this campaign is the elimination of diseases such as measles, rubella and polio.

Phase

Gina Cueva, Zone 7 coordinator of the Ministry of Health, has highlighted the good reception that the campaign has had in Zone 7. So far, more than239,000 children between 1 and 12 years of age. Currently, the second phase of the campaign is underway, in which work is being carried out door to door in urban and rural areas of the three provinces to meet the set goal. Medical brigades made up of general practitioners, family doctors, nurses and Primary Health Care Technicians (TAPs) have been deployed in the 282 first level unitsespecially in rural areas.

During this second phase, health personnel have intensified their activities with visits to places of mass concentration such as shopping centers, bus terminals and parks, in addition to making house-to-house visits in neighborhoods and communities. Even during the weekends, tours have been carried out in the neighborhoods and communities to ensure that no boy or girl is left unvaccinated.

The campaign establishes a vaccination scheme according to the age of the girls and boys. Those who have between 1 and 7 years receive a dose of oral bivalent polio vaccine (bOPV), while children ages 6 and 7 receive one dose of the injectable polio vaccine (fIPV). On the other hand, boys and girls between the ages of 2 and 12 receive a dose of the measles and rubella (MR) vaccine.

The vaccination campaign extends to next Sunday, July 9, nationwide. Vaccines are free.
