Anastasija Samoilova and Tina Graudiņa Win European ‘Queen & King of the Court’ Championship in Luxembourg

From June 27 to July 1, the European “Queen & King of the Court” final tournament will take place in Luxembourg, where Anastasija Samoilova and Tina Graudiņa won the ladies’ competition on Saturday evening.

Tina and Anastasia won all three rounds in group A by scoring 14, 22 and 15 points, which allowed them to win the golden ball. Next, a difficult start in the quarter-finals, but in the third round they manage to collect 11 points and enter the semi-finals. In the first two rounds of the semi-finals, Anastasia and Tina were superior to their opponents, in the third round they managed to win second place with 11 points, which ensured a place in the final. In the final, the girls faced two German duos Laura Ludwig/Luiza Lippmann and Sinja Tillman/Svenja Müller, Jagoda Gruszczynska/Aleksandra Wachowicz from Poland and Ronja Klinger/Dorina Klinger from Austria. In the first round, the girls collected 5 points and came in third place, in the second round a fierce battle for points developed between our girls and Laura Ludvig/Luiza Lipman, a couple of successful episodes and Samoilova and Graudiņa secured their place in the top three. At the end of the third round of the final game, Anastasia and Tina had the same number of points as the Polish duet, but in the last seconds the Latvian duet managed to get to the side of the queens, thus already securing the victory.

“A very tense tournament, especially the final and the last round. There were so many good episodes both defensively and on the block. We went and fought for every point, we believed that we could win and it happened. A very successful tournament and a great atmosphere, we are very happy!” comments Anastasia Samoilova.

In June, Anastasia and Tina also triumphed in the Latvian “Queen & King of the Court” tournament, which was held in Saldu. Ardis Daniels Bedrītis and Artūrs Rinkevičs won the men’s competition in Saldus. Both teams will have the opportunity to compete in the “Queen & King of the Court” tournament in Rotterdam from September 5-10.

Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Jānis Šmēdiņš also participated in the tournament in Luxembourg, but they failed to overcome the playoff round and the tournament ended in 16th place.

The European Championship will take place in Vienna from August 2-6, where Tina and Anastasia will defend their 2022 European Champions title, competing in subgroup G, together with teams from Poland, the Czech Republic and Ukraine.
