On July 1, the final of the choir competition was held throughout the day in the Great Hall of the University of Latvia and the Riga Latvian Society House, where 33 mixed choirs, 11 women’s choirs, 7 men’s choirs and 4 senior choirs competed for the Grand Prize.
The women’s choir of the Ventspils Culture Center received the grand prize, a cash prize of 3,000 euros, a flag nail and a box of Rimi goodies SALE (artistic directors Anitra Niedre, Rudīte Thalberga) in the women’s choir group.
The grand prize was also received by the KAMĀR… youth choir of the concert organization “Ave Sol” (artistic director Jurģis Cābulis) in the mixed choir group, the men’s choir GRAIDI (artistic director Jānis Mežinskis) of the Rēzekne state city municipality agency “Rēzekne Culture and Tourism Center” in the men’s choir group and the Riga Latvian Society senior choir ERELBE (artistic director Zaiga Lazdiņa-Radziņa) in the senior choir group.
On the other hand, in the group of mixed choirs, the 3rd place was won by the mixed choir VENTSPILS of SIA “Kurzemes filharmonija” (artistic director Aigars Meri).
The competition was evaluated by an international jury – Kaspars Putniņš, Krista Audere, Sigvards Kļava, Vačslovs Augustins (Lithuania), Anžela Maslenčikova (Ukraine), Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, Mārtiņš Klišāns, Andris Veismanis, Risto Jost (Estonia), Liana Chonišvili (Georgia).
The XXVII General Latvian Song and XVII Dance Festival, which is being held this year to mark the 150th anniversary of the Song Festival tradition, will resound in Riga until July 9.
