Bookmakers’ Ranking for Ligue 2 2023/24: Girondins de Bordeaux Favorites, What About ASSE?

The bookmakers are interested in Ligue 2 and the next exercise which will start in a month. The opportunity to answer the question “Which club will win the competition?”. The Girondins de Bordeaux appear as favourites… But, where will ASSE be?

The off-seasons are often an opportunity to reset the counters and indulge in the classic game of predictions. If the summer transfer window is still barely started, some, like the bookmakers, however venture to deliver their opinion on the positions of the teams at the end of the 2023/24 financial year. The website Sports thus reveals a ranking of specialists which places the Girondins de Bordeaux in the lead.

The club’s adventures in the scapular have not showered observers who see Bordeaux as the team that should win the title.

Sochaux overrated, promoted in the cart?

Conversely, they give very little chance to Rodez, Pau, Concarneau and Dunkirk to maintain themselves. A form of logic since these teams are either promoted this season, or have shown difficulty in surviving in Ligue 2, even if Rodez has had a good run.

It is nevertheless surprising to find Sochaux in 9th position. In enormous financial difficulty, the Doubiste club could be looted of its players during the summer and, if the DNCG fishes them out in Ligue 2 (note: they are currently under administrative demotion), their career path could be similar to a way of the cross.

The Greens on their way to Ligue 1?

And St-Etienne? What place have the bookmakers reserved for the Greens? The latter see ASSE playing the outsiders for the rise in Ligue 1. Ranked 4th, just behind the relegated Auxerre and Troyes, the specialists give a good chance to the Stéphanois to extricate themselves from Ligue 2. More than Angers who come go down or Caen which also has ambitions for accessions next season.

From experience, these rankings often remain fanciful and often make you smile when you find them a year later… Let’s hope that the people of Saint-Etienne will smile too, but for another reason…
