The National Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries reports that beef production grew 10% between January and May of this year, compared to the same period in 2022, which allowed both exports and domestic consumption to increase.
According to the data collected by the Undersecretariat of Livestock and Animal Production, in the first five months of 2023, 1,357,886 tons equivalent to bone-in beef were produced.
Secretary Juan José Bahillo highlighted that “the management proposed by the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, aims to accompany the potential that characterizes Argentine producers to expand the presence of our food in the world, guaranteeing internal supply” .
In this sense, the growth achieved led to an increase in per capita consumption, which reached 50.44 kg in May; and at the same time, it sustained a dynamic growth of exports that reached 390,209 tons equivalent to bone-in beef, thus achieving an increase of 13.31% between January and May, compared to the same period of previous years.
The main destinations for Argentine meats were China, which accounted for 78% of shipments; European Union (8%), Israel (6%), followed by the United States and Chile, who each accounted for 3% of national shipments.
