The transition of the North American electric car market to the NACS charging plug introduced by Tesla is gaining momentum very quickly – General Motors, Ford, Volvo, Polestar will introduce it in their cars within a couple of years, and there is also talk of Hyundai’s interest. Volkswagen also wants to use this plug in their cars, and talks have been started between the two car manufacturers.
Such information was also confirmed by the representatives of the Volkswagen units in North America. Some states already have requirements in place that charging facilities must be equipped with a NACS plug in order to receive federal aid for infrastructure development. One of the largest charging network operators, Electrify America, will also implement this plug-in in its network.

Installing the NACS plug in cars will mean that cars equipped with it will be able to charge on the Tesla Supercharger charging network. For now, however, there is no more precise information on how long Volkswagen plans to make this transition. It is expected to apply to all VW brands in North America, namely Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche.
