The French chef, who won two Michelin stars, Serge Vieira, passed away on Saturday, at the age of 46, after a long struggle with illness, according to what the organizers of the Bocuse d’Or award and the relatives of the deceased announced.
Vieira, who hails from Clermont-Ferrand (central France) and was born into a family of Portuguese roots, won two Michelin stars for a restaurant that bears his name and is located in the Château Couvour in Chouges-Aigou in Cantal. Vieira was keen to “put Chud Ego and Cantal on the map of international gastronomic destinations,” according to what his family confirmed on Facebook.
For years, Vieira has been heading the French team for the “Bocos d’Or” award, which is one of the most important international competitions in the field of cooking, and he won it in 2005.
The “Michelin” guide commented on Vieira’s death, saying, “In his contemporary restaurant… located in a medieval castle, he was known for his great qualifications,” in addition to his “skillfully prepared dishes.”
Vieira originally chose to work in the field of industrial design before deciding to go into the world of cooking. He was apprenticed to well-known names, including Regis Marcon, before winning the Bocuse d’Or award when he was twenty-seven.
His friends and collaborators said in an online post that “Sudad Restaurant, Hotel and Bar will continue to welcome visitors to experience the ‘Viera Experience’ that meant so much to him.”
