Microsoft Reveals Surprising Sales Figures for Xbox Series X|S

Microsoft has avoided giving specific sales figures for its consoles for years, so the release of official figures during the Brazilian festival came as a surprise.

The last time Microsoft called the numbers was eight years ago. Since then, the company’s financial statements have not been specific, and any reports of console sales have appeared in leaks or analytics. But the results revealed at the Best International Games 2023 in Brazil are not far off the mark.

As you can see in the photo from the presentation, more than 21 million Xbox Series X|S consoles have now been shipped. With a total of over 79 million Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S hitting stores, it’s not hard to figure out that 58 million customers have purchased previous generation consoles.

The smaller and cheaper Xbox Series S is drawing new buyers to the Xbox brand. During the presentation, it was revealed that nearly half (48%) of Xbox Series S owners have not previously owned a Microsoft console. This can be considered a definite success.

How do Xbox Series X|S sales (21 million) compare to competing consoles? The PlayStation 5 has sold around 38.45 million copies and the Nintendo Switch has sold 126.51 million. The huge gap clearly shows why Microsoft was not afraid to admit that they were losing the battle for customers.
