While Sony is quite open about how it is doing with the sale of the PlayStation 5, Microsoft maintains its traditional silence in this regard and leaves the public without key information for many years. At the BIG festival in Brazil, where Microsoft presented other titles from the program [email protected], however, there was an unexpected official disclosure of how many Xbox Series units are already in circulation – without breaking down the S and X models – as well as confirmation of how many of all previous Xbox One models have been sold. We won’t kid you – the Xbox Series has already managed to entice 21 million players to buy, compared to 58 million Xbox One in the previous generation.
The photo from the presentation has been circulating on the Internet for several days, and it was shared by the administrator of the Resetera portal, John Welfare, as one of the first. In addition to the number of units sold, Microsoft announced that 48 percent of Xbox Series S owners are complete newcomers to the Xbox ecosystem, which clearly underlines the philosophy behind the cheaper model. As has already been heard from many places – from people at Microsoft, but of course also directly from gamers – the Series S seems to be ideal thanks to its aggressive price tag alternative to the PC or the PlayStation, and that is probably the reason why Microsoft decided not to increase the price tag of the Series S during the recent price increase.
If we were to compare Microsoft’s numbers with Sony’s results, the PlayStation 5 console found its way to 38 million players by April of this year, so it is highly likely that it will already be over 40 million today. This would maintain a similar ratio in sales as with the previous generation, where Sony was able to reach 117 million players through the PlayStation 4, i.e. again basically exactly double that of the Xbox One.
