According to the film’s making-of documentary that is available on YouTube, during the scene where Indy and his father are sitting at the table of the zeppelin they are traveling in after escaping from the Nazis talking, the set temperatures were so high that they couldn’t take it anymore and the two took off their pants to better deal with the unbearable heat. Because the scene only filmed their upper bodies, the change in costumes did not affect the execution of the scene.
