Lamborghini’s flagship model, which is equipped with a V-type 12-cylinder engine in the rear mid, has been replaced from Countach to Diablo and Murcielago. And in 2011, the new Lamborghini apex “Aventador” will appear.
An ambitious work that redefines the pinnacle of super sports
As a mass-produced car, it adopted the only carbon monocoque + aluminum frame chassis at that time. The body panels were made of aluminum, combined with resin fenders, etc., to thoroughly reduce weight.
Following the Murcielago, Lamborghini’s traditional 12-cylinder midship made its world premiere at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. The official car name revealed here is “Aventador LP700-4”. As many people expected, Aventador is the name of a bullfight, and it appeared in the Zaragoza bullring in Spain in 1993, and it is said that bullfighting fans still talk about the brave fights they showed there.
The LP700-4 title that followed doesn’t need much explanation. Noteworthy is the number “4” attached at the end, and Lamborghini and its parent company Audi have made the drive system 4WD even in this Aventador.
Inherits many details from Sesto Element
Adopted many designs from the concept model Sesto Element. Of course, measures to reduce weight have also been inherited.
The design of the Aventador, which was completed mainly by Filippo Perini of Lamborghini Centrostile, inherits many images from the Sesto Element announced the previous year, and is truly combative and beautiful. The scissors door, which can be said to be the icon of the 12-cylinder model, is of course also used in this Aventador, but it is not completely vertical, but at the same time it opens slightly outward to enhance the ease of getting in and out.
Mr. Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini at the time of the launch of the Aventador, appealed, “Lamborghini will redefine the pinnacle of super sports with the Aventador, which has evolved for two generations at once.” However, it is true that various parts including the center monocoque are made of carbon to reduce weight, and the unique power unit mounting method since the Countach has been reviewed. , there is a strong impression that a new generation has arrived. If the previous Murcielago was a model that showed evolution (= evolution) by Audi, it can be said that Aventador was a model that gave an impression close to revolution (= revolution).
6.5-liter V-type 12-cylinder engine generates 700PS
The 6.5-liter V-type 12-cylinder engine adopted a short-stroke design with a bore of 95.0 and a stroke of 76.4mm, unlike the Murcielago. The unit weight of the 235kg engine is 18kg lighter than the Murcielago, and the maximum output of 700PS is 10PS higher than the Murcielago.
The engine mounted on the rear subframe is, of course, newly developed for Aventador, but the 60-degree V-12 cylinder means that Lamborghini has inherited the tradition since its founding. The aluminum/silicon alloy crankcase adopts an open deck structure with a steel cylinder liner, and has a displacement of 6498cc. As the name suggests, the maximum output was 700PS.
The transmission that can be combined with this is a single-clutch 7-speed semi-AT called IRS (Independent Shifting Rod), and the engine alone weighs only 235kg, and the transmission is also very lightweight at 70kg. .
The drive system is 4WD, but the center differential has evolved from Murcielago’s viscous coupling to an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch. The use of a push rod system that combines variable dampers with the front and rear suspensions has also become a hot topic. The Aventador LP700-4, which achieved a dry weight of 1575kg, achieved a maximum speed of 350km/h. 0→100km/h acceleration also leaves data of 2.9 seconds.
Released many derivative models such as “J” and “SV”
In addition to the coupe at the time of its debut, a roadster was added the following year. In addition, the “J”, which means the legendary famous car “Iota”, was manufactured as a one-off, and 50 He released anniversario, SV (Super Veloce) and variation models one after another. The photo is SV.
Various variations are added to this Aventador every year after its announcement. In 2012, the LP700-4 Roadster with a two-part detachable carbon roof and the Aventador J produced as a one-off model appeared around the same time. Customers and fans won’t need much explanation that “J” of course means Iota.
In 2013, the LP720-4 50 Anniversario commemorating the 50th anniversary of Lamborghini’s founding was released as a limited edition of 200 units, and in 2015, the LP750-4 Super with the title of SV, which Lamborghini fans have always been waiting for.・Announced Veloce. The previously announced coupe was limited to 600 units, followed by the Roadster, which was limited to 500 units, both of which were highly popular.
