Max Verstappen Wins Formula 1 GP Austria 2023 – Spielberg Race Results

Red Bull Racing Driver Max Verstappen managed to win the sprint race Formula 1 GP Austria 2023. teammate, Sergio Perez took second place, followed by the Ferrari racer Carlos Sainz Jr. in third place.

In the 24-lap race that was held at the Red Bull Ring wet circuit on Saturday (1/7), Verstappen, who had been overtaken by Perez at the start, returned to first position when he entered the corner. Nico Hulkenberg then overtook Perez and took second place.

Until the sixth lap, the order of the top three did not change. Sainz stalked in fourth place, followed by Lance Stroll, Fernando Alonso, Alex Albon and Esteban Ocon in the points zone. Duo Mercedes, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton scattered outside the top 10.

On the eighth lap, the distance between Verstappen and Hulkenberg had widened to 5 seconds, and further up to 6.5 seconds on the 10th lap. Perez, meanwhile, continues to hunt down Hulkenberg by less than a second.

On the 12th lap, Hulkenberg was no longer able to restrain Perez and was overtaken by the Mexican racer. Now it’s Sainz’s turn to try to overtake Hulkenberg to win the last podium slot. Meanwhile, Verstappen continued to run comfortably without rival interference.

Sainz managed to overtake Hulkenberg on the 13th lap to take third place. On lap 18, the German racer dropped to fifth after being overtaken by Stroll.

In the final third of the race, a number of drivers took the risk of changing tires after seeing the track getting dry. However, the majority of drivers on the front line chose to bet on maintaining the intermediate tires in order to finish in the points zone.

On lap 23, the top eight points zone positions were filled sequentially by Verstappen, Perez, Sainz, Stroll, Alonso, Ocon, Lando Norris and Hulkenberg who changed to medium tyres. The drama continues to the end.

On lap 24, Hulkenberg had managed to overtake Ocon and Norris to take sixth position. Then Russell managed to reach eighth position, the last position in the points zone after pushing Norris to ninth.

Verstappen without distraction meant winning the sprint race, followed by Perez and Sainz in the top three. Stroll, Alonso, Hulkenberg, Ocon and Russell made it to the top eight.

This victory makes Verstappen even more comfortable at the top of the standings with 203 points. He has the opportunity to widen the gap because he will also start the main race from first position on Sunday (2/7) at 20.00 WIB.
