Daedalic Entertainment Shuts Down Game Development: What Happened to the Studio Behind Gollum?

Daedalic Entertainment, the studio behind “Gollum” now announces that it is shutting down all internal game development.

In May, “Gollum” to universal sawing and now writes my city that the German studio behind “The Lord of the Rings”– the game, Daedalic Entertainmentshuts down all internal game development.

Instead of making games themselves, you must now only function as a game publisher – which therefore oversees game development at various game studios and helps with everything administrative.

The site has taken note of a report from the German gaming magazine GamesEconomywhich can tell that 25 employees out of 90 at Daedalic will be affected by the restructuring.

A representative from the company announces that “despite the fact that “Lord of the Rings: Gollum” did not live up to our expectations, we are very grateful for the opportunity and experience the game has given us. It is difficult, but also a new beginning for us in our long history”.

Because of this, Daedalic has paused development of another, unannounced Lord of the Rings project.

In addition to Tolkien’s fantasy world, Daedalic has also been worked on “Surviving Deponia” which is a space colony game. It will continue to develop, but now will be AtomicTorch the primary studio behind the project.
