On Friday, forward Matt Duchene was placed on unconditional waivers by the Nashville Predators in order to buy out the remainder of the player’s contract.
Duchene, 32, thus becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1. The forward had three years remaining on the seven-year contract worth $56 million ($8 million per season) he signed on July 1, 2019.
Duchene accounted for 56 points (22+34) in 71 games for Nashville last season when the team missed the playoffs. The forward was selected third overall in the 2009 draft and has recorded 744 points (316+428) in 976 regular season games for the Avalanche, Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets and Predators. He has also accounted for 25 points (10+15) in 32 games in the context of the playoffs.
