Former Assistant Governor of the Banque du Liban Charged with Financial Corruption Charges: Latest Updates on the Investigation into the Wealth of Riad Salameh in Europe

A judicial source told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that a French judge had charged the former assistant governor of the Banque du Liban, Marianne Howayek, with financial corruption charges, at the conclusion of a hearing held in Paris in the framework of the ongoing investigations into the wealth of the Central Governor, Riad Salameh, in Europe. .

A judicial source told the agency that the investigating judge charged Al-Huwaik with forming a criminal gang of villains and money laundering within the framework of an organized gang.

He pointed out that the investigating judge ordered that Al-Huwaik be placed under judicial control, prevented her from communicating with the Central Bank of Lebanon or working in it, and obligated her to pay a financial guarantee of 1.5 million euros.

Commenting on the investigative judge’s decision, Al-Howayek’s defense attorney, Mario Stasi, confirmed to the agency that his client “denies the accusations and will provide evidence confirming that the collected funds came mainly from a gift given to her while her father was alive, a wealthy businessman who has died since then.” .
