European Tour Operators Continue to Support Bulgarian Black Sea Tourism despite Dam Explosion

Large European tour operators do not report cancellation of reservations for the Bulgarian Black Sea because of the cleanliness of the sea water after the explosion of the Nova Kakhovka dam in Ukraine. This is shown by the data of the German and British companies cited by TravelNews.

Hoteliers and tour operators report only an outflow of Bulgarian and Romanian tourists.

So far, there are no canceled holiday reservations for Bulgaria on the German market and tourists are arriving. We are monitoring the situation and every day we are submitting up-to-date information to Germany, said Kalin Sutev, representative of the large German tour operator DER Touristik and manager of “Destination Tourist Services”.

Germans believe in institutions, unlike Bulgarians, and speculation does not affect reservations. The water along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast is really very clean at the moment, he explained.

A similar opinion was expressed by Ivan Groshev, manager of MTS Bulgaria, who represents the large British tour operator Jet2Holidays. According to him, there are no canceled reservations for holidays in Bulgaria in Great Britain.

According to him, the institutions represented by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Tourism should continue to monitor and provide daily information on the cleanliness of the sea water. This is important so that there is no negative response in Western Europe, he added.

The Deputy Chairman of the Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Association (BHRA) Veselin Nalbantov indicated that the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel should send letters to her colleagues in the EU explaining that the water is clean and there is no danger to our resorts from pollution.

The Minister of Environment and Water Julian Popov emphasized that there is a targeted campaign against the Bulgarian tourist season. According to him, there is information about propaganda between leading Russian journalists who are discussing how to take advantage of the explosion of the “Nova Kakhovka” dam to ruin the tourist season of Bulgaria and Romania.

For the purity of sea water, we need to constantly take samples and inform people. The surveillance is incessant. The situation after the explosion is improving. I am in direct contact with my colleagues from Romania and Ukraine, as we publish the received information, he added.
