It’s interesting to hear how consoles fare in terms of sales, so it was disappointing when Microsoft stopped sharing numbers after the PlayStation 4 beat the Xbox One in 2015. That led us to analyze reports from third-party publishers and speculate on how the Xbox One and Xbox Series will fare. This is no longer necessary.
At today’s Brazil’s Best International Games (BIG) festival, Microsoft announced that the Xbox family has sold more than 21 million units. This means that its quantityMore than half that of the PlayStation 5a little. But that’s not all.
The presentation also revealed that combined Xbox One and Xbox Family sales have surpassed 78 million units, meaning we end up knowing there are roughly 58 million Xbox Ones. That’s less than half of the last PlayStation 4 figure we achieved (117.2 million on April 1, 2022).
Still, it’s good to hear that the Xbox family continues to do well, even if it also explains why Microsoft is focusing more on streaming and Game Pass, while reiterating that the PlayStation has “won the console race.”
