FC Twente will rent Naci Ünüvar from Ajax next season, the Enschede club reported on Friday. The twenty-year-old attacker has not yet succeeded in breaking through in Amsterdam and he also had little time to play on a rental basis at Trabzonspor last season.
“Ünüvar is a very talented player who can play offensively in several positions,” said Jan Streuer, technical director of FC Twente on the club’s website. “Now is the time for him to get the chance to show himself in the Eredivisie.”
The Turkish youth international was known for years as one of the greatest talents in Ajax’s youth academy. In December 2019, he made his debut in the main force at the age of sixteen against Second Divisionist Spakenburg and was immediately accurate from the penalty spot.
Ünüvar, who was born in Zaandam, played two more cup matches, but did not yet play in the Eredivisie. In the service of Trabzonspor, Ünüvar played eight matches in the Turkish Süper Lig last season and scored once.

‘We always kept in touch’
A year ago, Ünüvar also spoke with Twente about a rental transfer, but then he opted for Trabzonspor. “We have always kept in touch. When FC Twente came into the picture again this season, I said ‘yes’ without a doubt. Next season I want to show myself in the Eredivisie,” he says.
Ünuvar is the second player to leave Ajax on a rental basis this Friday. Earlier in the day, the Amsterdam club reported that Youri Baas will be rented out to NEC next season. Ünüvar is the third summer addition to Twente. The club also took over Youri Regeer from Ajax and Younes Taha was bought from PEC Zwolle.
The first training of FC Twente for the new season, led by the new trainer Joseph Oosting, is Monday.
