Putin’s Declining Rating and the Paradox of Russian Public Opinion

Putin is aware of the loss of his rating due to recent events, but the Russians themselves, subconsciously realizing that their leader has disgraced himself, can show even more support.

Today Putin, instead of solving some global issues, “jumps on the air”, acting as his own PR agent. This is happening because the dictator is aware of the collapse of his political rating in connection with the “Prigozhin rebellion” that took place in Russia. But at the same time, there is a strange phenomenon of Russian public opinion. The Russians, subconsciously realizing that Putin “made it wrong”, on a conscious level do not want to admit this even to themselves.

Such an opinion expressed Russian opposition political scientist and geographer Dmitry Oreshkin in an interview with Alexei Gomon, which can be viewed on the Dmitry Gordon YouTube channel.

“Public opinion does not want to see reality and isolates itself. That is the mystery,” – said the expert.

Then Oreshkin explained that even if the Russians come and ask “how do you feel about Putin”, then they, in order to drown out the worm of doubt in their souls, will yell with redoubled energy that “We support him and are ready to lay down our lives in defense of our beloved leader”.

“But we saw that no one joined Prigozhin’s troops, nor anti-Prigozhin’s. We saw how everyone moved aside,” – said Oreshkin.

Earlier, Dmitry Oreshkin predicted the next attempt at a rebellion in Russia: “There will be no more march on Moscow.”

Also Dmitry Oreshkin described a “tempting option” for a counter-offensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which, most likely, is on the table at Zaluzny.

Recall that Dmitry Oreshkin said that Putin is waiting for the fate of Brezhnev: “How can such a regime be taken seriously?”
