String of Mysterious Deaths: Vice President of Russian Loko-Bank Falls from 11th Floor

The vice president of the Russian Loko-Bank – 28-year-old Kristina Baikova, fell from the window of the 11th floor of her apartment on Khodinsky Boulevard in Moscow, reports the Daily Mail.

This happened in the early hours of last Friday.

She was with her 34-year-old boyfriend at the time of the incident. An investigation into her death has been launched.

The tragic news comes amid a string of unexplained deaths of senior energy officials since Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine began in February last year.

In May this year, Russia’s deputy science minister, said to be a critic of the invasion of Ukraine, died suddenly after falling seriously ill on a flight to Moscow.

In April, energy boss Igor Shkurko was found dead in his prison cell after being accused of taking bribes. He was the deputy general director of the Russian energy company Yakutskenergo and a member of the pro-Putin United Russia political party, but his membership was suspended after the bribery allegation.

Just two months earlier, Russian oil tycoon Vyacheslav Rovneiko, 59, was “found unconscious” late at night at his home.

In February, Marina Yankina, a senior Russian defense official, was found dead after falling from a window. Reports said it was a suspected suicide, but that is often said in such cases in Russia before an investigation is conducted or the facts are known.

Major General Vladimir Makarov – a Russian general recently sacked by Putin – was also found dead in what was again a suspected suicide.

On December 26, Pavel Antonov – Russia’s richest member of the Duma and a critic of Putin – died in India after falling from a hotel window. The man who was with him – Vladimir Bidenov was found dead in the same hotel four days earlier.

Alexei Maslov, 69, the former head of Russia’s ground forces, died in hospital on December 25, and Alexander Buzakov – who headed Russia’s “admiralty shipyards” for a decade – died on December 24, 2022.

In July, Yevgeny Lobachov, 76 – a retired major general of the Russian Federation’s Federal Security Service – was found dead in Moscow with a gun nearby.

Other recent deaths include the editor of a popular Russian propaganda magazine, the vice president of Gazprombank and a high-ranking Gazprom official.
