Timothy Weah will be Juventus’ latest summer signing. La Vecchia Signora will shortly announce the arrival of the 23-year-old winger. On Thursday morning, Juve already shared that Weah is in Turin for his medical examination. The 29-time international of the United States comes over from Lille OSC for twelve million euros and will sign until mid-2028. With his transfer, Timothy follows in the footsteps of his legendary father, George Weah.
Weah senior left Paris Saint-Germain in 1995 for AC Milan, where he made waves by winning the Ballon d’Or. Now son Timothy is also switching from Ligue 1 to Serie A, only the clubs in question are different. There is also another difference between the two. While George played his international matches for Liberia, the country where he is currently president, Timothy plays for Team USA. The right winger, who can also play as a wing defender, was born in New York.
Before moving to Lille, Weah played in PSG’s youth academy, eventually playing six games in the main squad and scoring twice. After half a season on loan at Celtic, Weah was definitively sold to Lille for an amount of ten million euros, which now has a modest profit from his departure. Weah had a contract at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy until mid-2024, which he refused to extend. As a result, Lille felt compelled to sell the lightning fast attacker.
With Weah, Juventus does not bring in the most productive right winger. In the past four seasons, the American played 107 games for les Dogues, in which he accounted for only eight goals and the same number of assists. Weah will officially enter the books as Juventus’ fourth summer signing in the 2023/24 season. The number seven of the past Serie A season only now settles the transfer fees of Moise Kean (Everton) and Manuel Locatelli (Sassuolo). Both players come over from their previous employer for thirty million euros and have been rented for the past two seasons. The permanent transfer of former Ajax player Arkadiusz Milik has also been completed. He comes over from Olympique Marseille for six million euros after an earlier loan.
