In order to be able to develop their own innovative line of research and set up a research group over the next five years, six scientists from the University of Groningen and the UMCG have received grants of up to 800,000 euros from the Talent Program of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research.
The university announced this on Thursday.
Most of the grants went to researchers in the exact sciences, who have already conducted successful research for a number of years after obtaining their doctorate. Research into ‘making friends’ between the elements gold and oxygen, small disturbances caused by quantum mechanical processes, the influence of viruses on a recently discovered group of living organisms and a ‘time machine’ for cells were awarded a grant.
In addition, grants were awarded to studies on machine language learning and on migrants in the digital society,
All grants are part of the so-called NWO vidi programme. With this so-called Vidi funding, these experienced scientists can develop their own line of research and set up a research group over the next five years. Across the Netherlands, 97 scientists have received Vidi funding.
