262,080 doses of Pfizer BioNTech vaccine arrive for COVID-19 vaccination in Ecuador – Ministry of Health

Through COVAX, 262,080 doses of Pfizer BioNTech vaccine arrived in the country this Thursday, June 29, 2023. The Ministry of Health reported that these immunizers will be used for the vaccination of frontline personnel and people with a high degree of vulnerability.

For this shipment, 3.1 million dollars were invested and the priority will be the vaccination of personnel in the areas of management of respiratory diseases, such as pulmonology, ICU and emergency, of the entire national health system. This process will be carried out in the work areas of each of them.

In addition, adults over 65 years of age and patients with serious conditions and prioritized diseases will be immunized. However, the doses will only be applied if the person complied with the complete primary vaccination schedule and its two boosters, and if there is a lapse of six months with the last application.

Oncology and oncohematology patients: with recently diagnosed or active disease (less than 1 year from diagnosis, current treatment or having received immunosuppressive treatment in the last 12 months, relapsed or uncontrolled disease).

Tuberculosis activa: new cases or relapse, diagnosed in the last 12 months.

Vaccination of this group will begin on July 19, 2023 in the health centers defined by the Ministry of Health in the 24 provinces of the country. And a new shipment of vaccines is expected to arrive in November of this year.
