The violence against the symbols of the center-right is increasing dramatically: we are returning to a climate not dissimilar to that experienced in the midst of the electoral campaign for the Policies of 25 September 2022. In fact, only today did the last two episodes: the soiling of the mural dedicated to Silvio Berlusconi in via Volturno in Milan and the scar with red paint at the section of the Brothers of Italy in Massa, complete with an offensive banner for those killed at work. The clear feeling is that thehatred towards the coalition made up of FdI, Lega and Forza Italia is growing in proportion to the success in terms of political consensus of the government alliance. If you were to compile a list of all the vandalism that – “only” in the last year – have been committed against posters, party sections and mannequins depicting the leaders of the majority movements, one would probably be forced to write an entire encyclopedic volume.
When in July 2022 the Chambers were dissolved in advance and new parliamentary elections were called to be held at the beginning of the following autumn, all the forces of the centre-right were immediately targeted. On August 8, in the center of Bari, some Fratelli d’Italia posters were smeared with spray cans: that was only the beginning of a very long series of hooligan events. Fifteen days later, indeed, one could attend Grugliasco (Turin) to a “nice” poster installed at a bus stop with a reversed photograph of Giorgia Meloni and red writing: “Fasci hung”.
At the beginning of September 2022, an act of vandalism was carried out against Ernesto Rapani, a member of the Brothers of Italy and candidate for the Senate in Calabria: unidentified people daubed the window of the place that housed his electoral point with red paint. In Sardinia, a Olbiaa group of feminists has seen fit to literally tear off a blow-up, regularly posted for the electoral campaign, during a Pride procession, jumping to the chorus of “Who doesn’t jump is a fascist”: the scene, to the applause of the crowd present, came shooting and the video went around the web.
The government in the crosshairs of the usual troublemakers
But it is the representation of Meloni (now become Prime Minister in the meantime) upside down that in which the violent anti-center-right protesters have always managed to give their “best”. On 10 November 2022, on the occasion of a procession organized by the left-wing collectives a Bologna, a puppet of the leader of the Brothers of Italy was hung upside down. In that circumstance Undersecretary Bignami legitimately wondered: “What would have happened to reversed parts?”. But the violence and dangerousness of certain troublemakers certainly didn’t stop there.
New year, old bad habits. We are in March when the faces of Giorgia Meloni and the Minister of Education, Giuseppe Valditara, appear upside down and with eyes marked with an X in front of the Carducci classical high school in Milan, in via Beroldo, near piazzale Loreto. On a banner stands the inscription “But what merit, yours is only violence”. Here she is violence it would be that of the government and not of the usual aggressive social centres. Of course, the overturned president of the Senate could not be missing either: this can be seen a Napoli on the day when the Liberation Day was to be celebrated. “Happy April 25th”was the writing that stood out under the posters of La Russa, Meloni, Piantedosi and Valditara.
The last few months have also been characterized by other fouling involving various sections of the centre-right party. Twice that of Firenze of Forza Italia, in viale Corsica, was heavily attacked by anonymous vandals: in the latest circumstance, shortly after the disappearance of Silvio Berlusconi, it had been written “Is dead” with the addition of a curse. “Leghisti outside our neighborhoods” stood out instead on that of the League also in the Tuscan capital. Also in that region, then, had been the circle of Brothers of Italy Pisa to be vandalized, while another section of the relative majority party was also hit in Lucca, Teacher and in Terracina. Finally, no later than a month and a half ago, the phrase “Velletri doesn’t want you” which was written with the aim of intimidating the League. And luckily the “fascists” should be the people who are now in government.
