Five Ministry of Internal Affairs Employees Released After Arrests in Suspected Cover-Up of Car Crash

The five employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who were arrested on suspicion of covering up a crashed driver, have been released, bTV reported. They have not been charged and their 24-hour detention has expired.

The accident that led to the arrest of the police officers on Wednesday was probably caused by high speed. This is what a taxi driver who was at the scene hours after the impact told bTV. He filmed a video and uploaded it on social networks.

The incident took place in the capital’s “Nadezhda” quarter. The arrested officials are suspected to have taken a bribe to cover up the driver. Unofficially, there is talk of BGN 10,000. At the moment, there is no official information from the prosecutor’s office about charges being brought.

According to Petar Vladimirov, the car was moving at a very high speed in the oncoming traffic. He crashed into another car, which, as a result of the impact, was placed on the hood of a van. Then he turned towards the ceiling.

The accident happened around 2 p.m., and four hours later there were no police at the scene. The car was picked up by a repatrak.

In my opinion speed is the biggest factor first, the car was pretty grinded. The other that was hit was placed on the front hood of a van. We are not talking about a speed of 40-50 kilometers here, the damage would be minimal. I wonder where the driver is because he shouldn’t be uninjured in this accidenthe commented.

According to Nova TV, the policemen who arrived at the scene indicated in the documentation that they did not find the driver. It is possible that the actual transfer of the bribe was captured by security cameras.

Proving corrupt practices always requires the use of CPS, money marking or something else. We know there’s a camera that caught them. However, we are not sure to what extent this will play a decisive role in unraveling the case“, criminalist Ivan Savov commented to the media.

According to him, this is not the only case, but rather a “sense of routine”.

The years of negative selection lead to the fact that there are people in the system who do not possess the moral qualities to be employees of the Ministry of the Interior. Without the patronage of some mid-level boss, there’s no way this is going to happenhe stated.
