The young man ordered the food through the website of a leading foreign fast food chain. After selecting burgers, soft drinks and a doll with the restaurant’s logo, the website showed an ‘offer’ price of Dh37. The website informed that it is available at such a low price due to a huge discount. The young man stated that after giving all the card details and OTP to pay, 4848 dirhams were lost from the account.
The young man immediately lodged a complaint with the police and the bank. The investigation revealed that this is a fraud by creating a fake website that looks like the real website of a fast food company and sending its link in the name of offers. The young man did not notice the amount of the transaction along with the OTP received for confirmation of payment. Officials warn to be vigilant against such scams.
