Flexibility of Putin’s ‘Red Lines’ Revealed Amid Prigozhin’s Rebellion: Implications for the West

Putin’s “red lines” have failed and in fact turned out to be more flexible than the West thought.

The situation with Prigozhin’s rebellion showed the West that in the Kremlin, not everything is so clear with such a concept as “red lines”, with which Putin constantly intimidates the West.

A number of Western officials are sure that Putin went to an agreement with Prigozhin to avoid bloodshed in Russia itself. Politico.

These developments inside the Russian Federation have led many Western officials to question whether it is possible to go further with military assistance to Ukraine and transfer not only F-16 fighter jets, but also more deadly weapons.

It is possible that, in fact, Putin’s “red lines” are very flexible and the Russian dictator may not escalate the conflict if long-range weapons are supplied to Kyiv.

However, among the officials themselves, the question of new weapons for Ukraine has not yet been raised. As early as Tuesday, US Secretary of State Blinken made it clear that the chaos and confusion in the Russian Federation after Prigozhin’s rebellion should play into the hands of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

At the same time, the Americans are still on the sidelines and are waiting for how events within Russia itself will develop further.

Experts say that against the backdrop of the Prigozhin rebellion, the NATO summit in Vilnius should sparkle with new colors, as new topics for discussion will be raised. The Alliance may reconsider its plans regarding the admission of Ukraine into its ranks, especially against the backdrop of the military weakness of the Russian Federation and the prospect of a civil war.

Eurasia Group President Jan Bremmer said that all the same, for Ukraine’s membership in NATO, it is necessary to vote “for” the entire 31 countries.

Now the main problem of the West will not be the fear of crossing these very “red lines”, but destabilization within Russia itself, which can lead to unpredictable consequences.

Now in the West it is necessary to think what to do in the event of the collapse of the Russian Federation itself and what will happen to the nuclear arsenal.

Earlier, the Western press reported that the Kremlin was ready to take full control PMC “Wagner”.

Recall that the Russian elite has no doubt that Prigozhin’s rebellion undermined Putin’s image as a guarantor of stability.
