RoyaltyPrincess Charlotte (8) could make history as one of the most girls at Eton. The prestigious school currently only admits boys, and it is tradition that most British princes attend school there. Since single-sex schools are rather dated, chances are Charlotte will be allowed to go too, once she’s old enough.
The future king, Prince George (9) recently went to see it with his parents, because he will definitely go to school there. Prince William and Princess Kate took him on a tour of the boarding school, where William himself was also attending school at the time.
The university has a golden reputation, due to the predilection that the royal family has for the institution. But what about the royal daughters, such as George’s sister Charlotte? She could join within five years, if the school decides in time to admit girls. Students can start there from the age of 13 and stay there until they graduate from university. The British are eager to hear what Eton will decide, as it was previously reported that the Berkshire school was considering including enrollments for girls. That would be the first time in 600 years. Headmaster William Waldegrave has already noted that girls will be allowed to take office at a certain point: “The question is not ‘if’, but ‘when’. We talk about it every year. It will not be long.”
When the decision is finally made, the royals won’t have to think long about Charlotte’s future. She also made history earlier, as the first girl in the family tree of the British royal family, who came in line for succession to the throne before her younger brother Louis. The law that stated that boys always had priority over girls in succession has only recently been abolished at the request of William and Kate.
