[이코노미스트 원태영 기자]NCsoft announced on the 29th that it will release the new expansion pack ‘Secret of the Obscure’ for ‘Guild Wars 2’ in North America and Europe on August 22 (local standard).
Guild Wars 2 is a PC online MMORPG produced by ArenaNet, NC’s North American development studio. Secret of the Obscure is the fourth expansion pack for Guild Wars 2, following ‘Heart of Thorns’ in 2015, ‘Path of Fire’ in 2017, and ‘End of Dragons’ in 2022.
Guild Wars 2 released the first trailer for the expansion pack. A new story unfolds in two new maps, ‘Skywatch Archipelago’ and ‘Amnitas’ floating in the sky. Up to 10 users can meet various contents and combat systems, such as two new ‘Strike Missions’ that defeat boss monsters and receive rewards, and new skills for flying mounts.
Guild Wars 2 will sequentially introduce additional content updates, including new maps, until 2024. Users who have purchased the expansion pack can enjoy it at no additional cost.
NC will hold a beta event to pre-release some expansion pack contents. Users who access Guild Wars 2 from June 29th to July 2nd (local standard) can create a character exclusively for the beta event and experience the new feature, ‘Weapon Master Training’.
Pre-purchase for global users was also opened. It consists of three versions: Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition, and Ultimate Edition. Users who participate in pre-purchase will receive various in-game items as compensation.
“In this expansion pack, you can explore the old secrets and history of Guild Wars 2 like never before,” said Josh Davis, game director of Guild Wars 2. Through this, we will provide more fun and content.”
Guild Wars 2, released in 2012, is a million-seller title that has secured 16 million users worldwide and exceeded 1 trillion won in cumulative sales. In 2022, the game was released on ‘Steam’ and the platform was expanded.
