Violent Protests and Vehicle Fires in Toulouse Following Teen’s Death

In a report released shortly after midnight, the prefecture indicates that “about fifty individuals have burning of vehicles and garbage cans near Place Abbal in the Reynerie district”.

What happened at La Reynerie?

According to the State services, these individuals “attacked the security forces intervening in the protection of firefighterscalled to the scene to put out the various sources of fire, by projectile jets and mortar fire“. In return, the police “used tear gas to contain them”.

13 arrests, 20 vehicles burned at Mirail

The prefecture then drew up “the balance sheet” of these few hours of urban violence, which ended in “20 burned vehicles, including two mini-diggers and a scooter”, not to mention the many trash cans and the urban furniture destroyed, noted one of our journalists. She also mentions “a destroyed camera”. According to our sources, a van on fire was actually thrown on a CCTV camera, in the Bagatelle district this time.

Other violence and burned vehicles in Blagnac

For its part, the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service indicates that it has set up an “advanced command post on the outskirts of the area concerned”, in order to coordinate relief. Especially since, “secondly, Blagnac was won by this violence, leading to the commitment of three vehicles and about fifteen additional firefighters.

In total, firefighters counted “30 garbage fires” and “32 lights for light vehicles”, treated on these two geographical areas.

In a statement, Jean-Luc Moudencthe mayor of Toulouse and president of the Metropolis called for a “return to calm”.

No injuries, but a “dangerous dog” killed
