The eatery
We enter the restaurant at 1:30 p.m., the last guest in the garden is just leaving the restaurant, we are alone. We sit inside because of the wind. The guest garden is on the street side on the little-used Köflacher Gasse, almost at the intersection with Eggenberger Straße. The guest garden is green and shaded by an awning, the armchairs have comfortable upholstery, the tables are gray and empty.
The interior of the place is very modern, the walls are mostly decorated with Italian motifs and graphics, the rest is decorated in shades of brown. Some (plastic) flowers are hanging from the ceiling. Various seating options, all in dark brown tones and imitation leather, are available to the guest. Standing tables with stools are placed in the middle, there are seating niches at the edges, which we find to be more comfortable, so we sat down.
The friendly waiter comes immediately and brings us the menu, which is printed on an A3 sheet of paper and acts as a placemat for the time being. In addition, there is a daily menu, which the dedicated man introduces to us directly. We order our drinks and browse the menu. The drinks are brought quickly, the soda lemon is unfortunately also made with a lemon juice concentrate from the bottle, two half lemon slices swim in the glass.
The offer
There is a daily lunch offer, two different dishes, with a choice of salad or soup. There is also a small selection of Italian dishes and pizzas on the menu. Three starters (salad, burrata or a starter plate) and three traditional pizzas (marinara, margherita and quattro formaggi), a few small dishes such as fried chicken salad or Cesar salad and two desserts (ice cream brulee and ice cream) can be found on the menu. The main part is made up of “Pizza Speciale”, and that’s exactly what we wanted. So we order a pizza Guiseppe with yellow tomato sauce, fior de latte, spicy salami, three kinds of chili and basil and a pizza with prociutto cotto.
Immediately after ordering, we get a wooden box brought to the table – it contains oils, balsamic vinegar and “better” knives for the pizza and pizza scissors. We still don’t know that we will need these better knives soon…
The pizza is brought to the table one by one, the plates are very hot. Both pizzas look wonderful, the first bites are really okay. Unfortunately, bit by bit, the dough is getting tougher and harder to cut, and chewing is also tedious. The taste of the pizza is a bit dry, all the ingredients and the dough don’t look very fresh and smell a bit musty. Rarely does it happen that we leave a bit of a pizza behind, but neither of us was able to eat it all – we are not even asked if we would like to take it away.
Conclusion
Despite the empty restaurant we got a very pleasant service. Unfortunately, that couldn’t console us for the mediocre drinks, the tough pizza dough and the ingredients that weren’t quite fresh.
